arsenal research - the Austrian Centre of Research and Testing is a research centre partly owned by the Republic of Austria. With its about 200 employees in 5 specialised departments arsenal research takes an interdisciplinary approach to projects on energy, environmental protection, structural engineering, traffic engineering and microelectronics.
The Department of Renewable Energies with its about 20 employees has been working in the fields of solar energy for more than 20 years.
The introduction of innovative energy systems into the heating/ventilation system, support during the developing process of new devices and systems - often by means of the big climatic chamber - is part of the work within the internal energy efficient buildings working group.
Moreover, arsenal research is the only institution for testing and certification of solar thermal applications according to the Austrian Standards. Beside testing, arsenal research gives also support for the industry during the developing process of solar components. The monitoring of the "national 200 kWp Photovoltaic-wide range test" was the starting point for PV research in 1994. Since then, arsenal research has been working in several PV related EU projects, with the focus on the interconnection pv - utility grid.
A test centre for heat-pumps, energy consulting for municipalities, climatisation, building technology and space heating are closely connected to these working fields.
arsenal research is closely co-oparating with the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, Bundesverband Photovoltaic, Leistungsgemeinschaft Wärmepumpe for heat pumps, Bundesverband Solar for thermal systems and CERE (Centre of Excellence of Renewable Energies). Work on Wind-energy focuses on electrical topics, concerning reliability, safety and energy management. Projects concerning dissemination of solar energy are also content of the work.
International co-operation within the International Energy Agency, various EU-Projects and European Standardisation work guarantee for high level research.
